Der »Applied Photonics Award« geht aus dem »Green Photonics«-Nachwuchspreis hervor - nun mit einem neuen Anstrich und neuer inhaltlicher Ausrichtung. Verliehen wird er durch das Fraunhofer-Institut für Angewandte Optik und Feinmechanik IOF in Jena. Das Institut betreibt seit über 25 Jahren anwendungsorientierte Forschung auf dem Gebiet der Photonik und entwickelt innovative optische Systeme zur Kontrolle von Licht. Optik und Photonik tragen als Schlüsseltechnologien dazu bei, Herausforderungen zu lösen, vor denen die Menschheit heute steht. Um besonders originelle und innovative Abschlussarbeiten zu würdigen, die sich mit den Themen der Angewandten Photonik beschäften, wurde dieser Nachwuchspreis ins Leben gerufen.
Für den Applied Photonics Award 2023 sind alle Bachelor-, Master- und Diplomarbeiten sowie Dissertationen teilnahmeberechtigt, die im Jahr 2022 und 2023 an einer deutschen Universität oder Hochschule entstanden sind (Dt./Engl.), als bestanden gelten und sich durch eine besondere Relevanz im Bereich Angewandter Photonik auszeichnen. Die Bewerberinnen und Bewerber können aus verschiedensten Fachdisziplinen stammen - von der Mathematik oder Chemie über Angewandte Optik und Physik bis hin zu Material- oder Biowissenschaften.

The Applied Photonics Award emerged from the Green Photonics Junior Award – now with a new look and new content alignment. It is awarded by the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF in Jena. For over 25 years, the institute has been conducting application-oriented research in the field of photonics and developing innovative optical systems to control light. As key technologies, optics and photonics contribute to solving the challenges facing mankind today. This prize has been created for young scientists to honor particularly original and innovative theses dealing with the topics of applied photonics.
The Applied Photonics Award 2023 is open to all bachelor’s, master’s and diploma theses as well as dissertations (German/English) that were written in 2022 and 2023 at a German university or college, are considered to have passed and are particularly relevant in the field of applied photonics. Applicants can come from a wide range of disciplines – from mathematics or chemistry to applied optics and physics right up to materials science or biosciences.
