Inclusive University - the project
The diversity of students with their specific individual needs poses enormous challenges for each university. In particular, students with disabilities or chronic diseases are nationwide, including in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, confronted with study and learning conditions that are limiting their individual needs in everyday university life.
The Inclusive University Project aims to fulfill specifications of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD, 2006) and the country's strategy for the implementation of the Inclusion in the education system in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern until 2023 (2015). The main goal is to develop and implement barrier-free study structures as well as barrier-free teaching opportunities in the universities of the country.
On the basis of a comprehensive inventory and needs analysis, the necessary fields of action, objectives and measures are generated and transferred into a comprehensive guiding principle of inclusive university. In addition, further education and counselling services as well as practical handouts are to be provided to teachers at the universities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in order to help implementing measures of inclusive teaching and develop barrier-free study structures. The University of Rostock acts as a project university for the development, testing and evaluation of strategies, cooperation paths and measures for barrier-free studies in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
