The Federal State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has set up an Excellence Research Program to strengthen top-level research and to support young researchers who gain further qualifications in research alliances. In the current funding period from 2014 to 2022, the program is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).
Within the Excellence Research Program, three calls for proposals have already been launched using two-stage competitive procedures. In the first call round in 2016, the focus was on excellent research projects with priorities that can be assigned to the Regional Innovation Strategy of the State (RIS). In the 2017 call for proposals, funding was provided for research projects with a focus on areas that lie within the design fields of the Healthcare Industry Master Plan. Research projects on the topic of digitalization were the focus of the 2018 call for proposals.
