The harbor and maritime economy, the different cultures of a crossroads port, and the university have made the city of Rostock an economic and cultural center on the Baltic Sea for hundreds of years.
The University of Rostock is the oldest university in the Baltic Sea area, inheriting a rich tradition of nearly 600 years of teaching and research. Today roughly 14,000 students fill the new departments. More than 150 different degree programs are offered, including currently six Master's programmes and one doctoral programme in English:
